Pawlu Grech (1938-2021) was one of Malta’s most important multidisciplinary artists who was active in the second half of the 20th century and in the early 21st. Grech’s artistic life led him to work with top orchestras in London and to exhibit his paintings in Malta, Paris, and the UK. He experimented with visual and musical language, creating pieces that challenged traditional principles of both art forms. Grech’s visualisations of nature’s microorganisms and his sonic inventiveness appear as artefacts of his own cosmic world, a world guided by imagination and spirituality. As a teacher, Grech gave priority to community and interaction, an approach that left an indelible mark on his students and peers. Pawlu Grech: A Cosmos of Art pays homage to his legacy by showcasing some of his paintings and musical pieces.
