Pat Thomas- Material Wealth Book Release with special guests. In person event from 6-8pm.
Pat Thomas returns to Rochester for a Book Release Party for his recently released Material Wealth: Mining the Personal Archive of Alan Ginsberg (Powerhouse Books).
Pat Thomas grew up near Rochester and became a vital member of the ’80s Rochester new wave/punk music environment as the percussionist for “Absolute Grey,” a four piece band that began Thomas’s long career as a musician, producer and archivist.

But Pat is currently celebrating his parallel career as a counter-cultural historian, with the release of his new book, Material Wealth: Mining the Personal Archives of Allen Ginsberg and its companion CD of some of Ginsberg’s musical collaborations. Working directly with the Ginsberg estate, Thomas has assembled a choice selection of ephemera from the famed poet and counter-cultural icon personal archives–a smorgasbord of posters, letters, notes, fan mail, photos, critiques and unreleased materials, all gleaned from the huge Ginsberg archives at Stanford University. (see attachment)

Pat is also the author of “Listen Whitey,” Sounds of the Black Revolution 1965-1975.

Pat Thomas will be joined by writer Pete Conners, the editor/publisher of the highly regarded BOA Editions to discuss Ginsberg’s impact on American culture. (Pete Conners is the author of “The White Hand Society, The Psychedelic Partnership of Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg,” as well as several other publications.)

Rochester cultural icon Dick Storms, owner of the Record Archive, will join the discussion.

Writer/Performer/Yoga instructor Anderson Allen will provide a special performance for the event. (Allen was chosen as one of City Newspaper’s 2023 Rochester Ten, for his unique contributions to the Rochester community). Larry Champoux will host.

Copies of books by Pat Thomas will be available for purchase.

This is a free event. Co-sponsored by Record Archive, Imageout Film Festival, and Writers & Books.
