Passing the Torch Youth Empowerment Games is a community building event hosted by Latinos Unidos of York in partnership with the York City Police Department and the York Safety Collab. Now in its fourth year, Passing the Torch brings together youth ages 10-17 and local law enforcement officers for friendly, Olympic style team competitions designed to strengthen relationships, build trust, and promote positive interactions. Younger children will have opportunities to have fun as well with tug of war and other events.Activities include obstacle courses, relay races, tug‑of‑war, and basketball. The event honors the legacy of Harry O. Colón, a beloved community member who organized the event in prior years before his passing in November 2023. To celebrate his memory and continue his mission.
The afternoon will feature free food and drinks, music, and medals and awards for participating youth. The purpose of Passing the Torch is to empower young people, foster stronger relationships between youth and law enforcement, and celebrate community unity through healthy competition and fun.
