Join us for a night of Fundraising and Fun for Social Enterprise Start-Up, Parish Coffee! ABOUT PARISH COFFEE:
Parish Coffee is a social enterprise small business startup in Calgary, AB. We’ve got a big heart for making an impact in our city through community-centred business and good coffee! Our goal is to provide training and employment opportunities for women who face barriers in our city!
The Name Parish ... Historically, a 'Parish' was a group of people under the care of a specific priest. The city of Calgary is the 'Parish' we seek to pour into and build relationships with through coffee and connection!
We officially launched our mobile coffee truck this past September! We've enjoyed connecting with all sorts of folks around the city and surrounding areas over some yummy cappuccinos. Our truck is parked for this winter season, but we'll be popping up with our mobile sink unit during the winter months. Be sure to keep an eye on our stories for upcoming events!
We've already ran one employment training program with our partners, For Kingdom and Sparrow! We were able to provide a handful of ladies employment readiness skills such as resume building, strength finding, and interview practice. Afterwards we spent multiple weeks doing hands-on training in both screen printing and barista training with a few shadow shifts to follow! We were thrilled to begin the process of connecting with these wonderful women, and are excited to launch some more training programs soon!
WHY THE FUNDRAISER?
Our heart with starting Parish Coffee is to employ women who face employment barriers within our own city (low-income single moms, women coming out of rehab or the prison system, exiting sex trafficking and so forth). We are working to create a trauma-informed workplace that will empower these women, teach them hands-on skills that are highly transferable to any workplace, and to be a stepping stone on their way to re-integrating into the workforce.
*ALL FUNDS from this event will go towards job-skills training and subsidizing the wages of the women we are seeking to hire, hopefully creating even more job opportunities!*
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
The Fundraiser is on November 9th at 6pm at 2018 Centre St N.
(lots of street parking).
We hope to create a night of connection with like-minded folk in our city who love coffee, small businesses, and creating a social impact! We will have snacks, live music, a silent auction, and of course, some Parish Coffee!
The silent auction will begin online November 2nd via Bid Beacon and run until 8:30pm November 9th. All silent auction items will be present at the event so you'll get a chance to look up close!
This event is free to enter, but be prepared with cash or a mobile device for online giving if you wish to donate to the cause!
