About this Event

Parenting always calls for creativity and humour - when a child needs extra help, it also takes courage and perseverance. Join this welcoming event to connect with other families.

This event is for children aged up to 8 years old with additional needs, health conditions or disabilities, and their families.

What to expect:

• A welcoming space to connect with other families.

• A light lunch will be provided (but feel free to bring your own, if you have special dietary needs).

• Music and fun activities for children.

Why join us?

Parenting always calls for creativity and humour – but when a child needs extra help, it also takes courage and perseverance. This event offers:

• Interesting research on family experiences and child development.

• Expert advice from Cambridge researchers and clinicians.

• Real-life stories from parents who are navigating similar challenges.

Meet our speakers (with Dr Stephanie Archer as facilitator):

• Dr Kate Baker (Genetics) and Dr Helen Dolling (Psychology): Research on rare genetic conditions and family experiences of diagnosis.

• Steph Hoskin (Cambridgeshire PSHE Service) and Dr Tom Almeroth-Williams (University Communications): Personal journeys through parenthood and its ups and downs.

• Dr Artur Jaschke (Autism Research Centre): How can music therapy support communication and development?

This event will be run in partnership with the Opportunity Playgroup (www.opportunityplaygroup.co.uk), the Cambridge Disabled Kids Swimming Club (www.cdksc.co.uk) and Pinpoint (https://www.pinpoint-cambs.org.uk).
