Parent Involvement in Play Therapy: Balancing Individual and Family Treatment Approaches
This training outlines key points about integrating parents in children's play therapy. The focus is on balancing individual and family approaches to maximize the therapeutic outcomes. We will concentrate on the benefits of play therapy for children's brain and physiological development, and learn how to engage parents in the therapeutic process while incorporating theories suitable for family-based play therapy.

About the instructor
Nikole R. Jiggetts, LCSW is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Certified Trauma Practitioner and author. She is the CEO and owner of Replay Counseling Center, LLC. Also known as Replay Counseling and Consulting. She is a graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work, with an MSW in 2000. Nikole has been working with children, adolescents and their families for over 20 years. She is passionate about providing individuals with the opportunity to work through their difficulties and begin to start feeling better about their lives utilizing expressive therapies, including play, art, and yoga in sessions.
In addition to serving as an adjunct professor for the VCU School of Social Work, she is also a life coach, parenting consultant and registered yoga teacher. Nikole also provides training for mental health clinicians in the states of Virginia and Maryland as well as the District of Columbia, for the past 10 years.
Learning Objectives
Attendees will be able to:
1. Explain the social, emotional, and physiological benefits of play therapy with children
2. Explain the basics of the brain and benefits of play therapy while engaging the parents/caregivers in the process.
3. List theories to be used with families in play therapy
4. Describe at least 6 play therapy interventions with children and their parents/caregivers in session
5. Explain skills to conduct parent consultation sessions without the client
Agenda:

8:30-10:00-The brain and benefits of play therapy: understanding the role of development in therapy

10:15-12:00- The core conflicts of play : theory and role of the clinician and parents/caregivers

1:00-2:15- Family theories and implications of play: therapeutic interventions

In order to receive full credit for this course, participants must attend for the entire duration of the course and complete a course evaluation form. Partial credit CE certificates will not be distributed. CE certificates will be distributed immediately after the end of the course and upon submission of course evaluation form.
