Need more fun playtime with the kids?
Looking for a gentle way to get back into movement?
Interested in learning a cultural art form which builds strength, agility, and a sense of community?
The Capoeira Arts foundation's 5 part Parent-child capoeira class inspires multi-generational learning with basic instruction in capoeira movements, unique instruments, singing, and storytelling. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form which is dance like, fight like, and played in a circle as a game.
About our instructors:
Mestra Papagaio: Laura, "Mestra Papagaio" is a student of Capoeira since 1988, is invited to countless international Capoeira events and plays a major role in the capoeira community here in the Bay Area. She organized parent child classes in 2005 because she saw a need for play and fun new ways of communication between caretaking adults and their children.
Lucas 'Vovobau': Lucas grew up in the Casa de Cultura, and at five years old was the kid example when this class was offered in 2005. Since then he has traveled the world playing pro soccer, and continued his love for Capoeira. He is 25 now, working as a youth soccer coach for Soccer clubs in the Bay Area.
