Former PARC participants, you know the drill! 😁 This 5K cannot be called a race…it’s an EVENT. It’s affectionately and appropriately known as the slowest 5K you’ll probably ever complete, where the DFL’s are the true “winners.” (DFL=race term.) This event is fun and open to all ages, just go in knowing that adults are challenged/encouraged/downright expected to let their inner child run amok. It’s ok, you’re among friends. Kids, rein them in if you have to. So, join us as we run or walk a 5K route that has fun activity stops along the way…local points of interest, food/beverage samples, and the best part, the (optional) “challenges.” You never know what ridiculous challenge we’ll have in store for you, as every year the challenges and routes are different! It’s what sets this event apart from the standard 5K’s. Included in your registration fee are the food/beverage samples, a personalized PARC 5K glass (cuz who needs another t-shirt?) everything you need to know about the route and challenges, and of course, lots of laughs. Not included are optional adult beverages at pub or restaurant stops, so if you’d like to partake, please plan accordingly with regard to 💰 and 🚗. Children 10 and under are free, but you’re welcome to register them if they’d like to recieve the souvenir glass. (It’s a 7 oz glass if that helps, and made of glass.)
As per usual, the route, business stops, and challenges are meant to be a mystery until closer to the event date. About a week before the event, the map, route, and Challenge Checklist will be posted in the FB event. We’re asking participants to print and BYO maps if needed, and Challenge Checklists. But new this year, you can go TOTALLY DIGITAL! You can download the “RunGo” app to use as you move through the route…you literally find the route, hit go, and as you progress it’ll give you verbal turn-by-turn instructions of the route and even tells you the challenges as you approach them. We’ll also have a digital “Challenge Checklist”. What will be posted a week before…Hard copies: A map document with the route highlighted, a written turn-by-turn route document, and a written Challenge Checklist. Digital: RunGo route and digital Challenge Checklist links. Please note that only a few “emergency” hard copies of the route will be available on event day, so please plan to print and BYO if you want hard copies. Or just follow everyone. 🤷🏻♀️
Important! Sadly, we’re not able to control the weather, sorry 😕 (working on it, but it’s a slow process.) If the weather on event day is predicted to be horrendous, i.e. torrential rain, tornados, etc., we will make the call at approximately 7 PM the evening before to cancel. Due to the fact that MANY businesses are involved, it’s not feasible to reschedule. We will instead invite participants to come to one of the route establishments from 11 AM to noon to pick up their souvenir glass and enjoy the samples that would have been offered on the route. This route could then potentially be used the next year. Or not, depends on how lazy I am next year. Regardless, you could do it anytime because you’ll have the route.
This is a nonprofit event, with all proceeds above cost being donated to the Sara Rose Hougom Foundation.
Questions? Please feel free to post them in the comments, so we all can learn together.
Let’s make this the BIGGEST group yet…invite your family and friends! 🎉
