About this Event
Join us for an extraordinary evening of Kathak featuring acclaimed guest artists Pt. Jaikishan Maharaj ji and Shri Tribhuvan Maharaj ji, alongside Smt. Parna Basu, Artistic Director of Nritta Katha. Rooted in the living tradition of the Lucknow Gharana, Paramparā Pravāh brings the Bay Area a rare opportunity to witness the Kalka Bindadeen lineage in a live performance.
The evening will be opened by Nritta Katha students, whose performances reflect a year of disciplined training, artistic growth, and dedication to the art form. Their presentation will lead into featured performances by the visiting artists and Parna Basu, creating an arc that honors both the journey of the student and the continuing flow of paramparā.
This production is made even more special by original music composed by Pt. Jaikishan Maharaj ji, son of the legendary Pt. Birju Maharaj ji and the 8th-generation flag bearer of the Kalka-Bindadin Lucknow Gharana. With choreography created in dialogue with these rare compositions, the evening promises a rich experience of rhythm, expression, and lineage.
