Paradise Book Club is a bi-monthly screening series presented in partnership with TYPE Books. Hosted by Kevin Greenspan and Claire Foster, Paradise Book Club explores the art of adaptation with a selection of films based on a wide range of novels, short stories and nonfiction.Books will be available for purchase in the Paradise lobby courtesy of TYPE.
On September 24, Paradise Book Club officially kicks off with a screening of Alex Garland’s ANNIHILATION.
Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s Nebula Award-winning novel, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, ANNIHILATION follows a biologist (Natalie Portman) as she joins an expedition into Area X, a restricted environmental zone on the coast that’s been transformed by unknown forces.
A loose but inspired interpretation of the original book, Garland’s film evolves and reshapes its story in unexpected ways, spinning VanderMeer’s singular weird fiction into a thrilling and disturbing meditation on the nature of change and self-destruction.
Get ready for the event by picking up a copy of the 10th Anniversary reissue of Annihilation at TYPE BOOKS – we’ll also have copies available at the screening!
