About this Event
Families, kiddos and crafters alike: got a pile of old magazines, wrapping paper scraps, or junk mail you can't bring yourself to throw away? Good. Bring that energy.
In this hands-on family friendly workshop, you'll transform recycled paper into something genuinely beautiful — guided by BBR's Workshop Coordinator Sara Kudra, RISD BFA, with a serious eye for color and composition. No art background needed. Just curiosity, a pair of scissors, and a willingness to make a little mess. We will cover collage art techniques, and offer a guided composition, or you can listen in while creating your own design.
This is the first session in BBR's new Paper Craft series — a recurring workshop offering seasonal themes to hone your paper-crafting and collage skills throughout the year, all made from reused materials.
What We’ll Cover
✂ Collage Basics — How to tear, cut, layer, and compose paper into a finished piece. Soft edges vs. clean shapes, background vs. foreground, and how to make layers stick together.
🎨 Color & Composition — A quick, practical intro to spring palettes and how to arrange pieces with balance and intention.
🖌️Decoupage Technique — How to apply Mod Podge to flat and curved surfaces so your paper stays put and looks polished.
♻️ The BBR Reuse Angle — Every material in today's class is recycled or salvaged. We'll talk about how scrap paper becomes art — and why that matters.
Each participant picks one to make and take home:
💐 Spring Greeting Cards — Collage on card stock. Perfect for Mother's Day, a birthday, or anyone who deserves something handmade.
🌿 Decoupage Wooden Frame — Layer torn and cut paper onto an unfinished frame to create a piece of seasonal wall art or a gift-ready photo frame.
Or your own composition!
