Welcome to a panel discussion where the participants will explore the intricate relationship between Georgian music, its societal contexts, and its role in moments of political protest.As active participants in the ongoing protests in Georgia against rigged elections, Georgian pianists Nino Jvania and Tamar Zhvania and musicologist Gvantsa Ghvinjilia will delve into how music has historically intersected with political movements and how it continues to be a powerful tool for resistance today.
The speakers will explore traditional and classical Georgian music, contemporary compositions, and protest songs to highlight how music reflects society and calls for change. They will discuss how the soundscape of protest, through both vocal and instrumental means, reflects the collective desire for justice and the deep-rooted cultural values that inspire these movements.
