About this Event
Pandit Yogesh Samsi will give his first‑ever tabla solo recital at Stanford University. Join us for a rare opportunity to hear one of India’s greatest tabla maestros at the peak of his powers in an intimate venue.
Universally admired for his rhythmic sophistication, resonant tone, and deep command of repertoire and improvisational patterns, Pandit Yogesh Samsi is one of the foremost tabla players of his generation. A rare modern performer who has expanded core solo forms such as the peshkar, he is equally celebrated as an accompanist, having performed extensively with giants including Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Vilayat Khan, and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
Yogesh‑ji is a disciple of Punjab‑gharana maestro Ustad Allah Rakha—father of Ustad Zakir Hussain—with whom he trained for more than two decades. He is also the son of renowned vocalist Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, who first introduced him to the tabla.
