WHAT IS SHROVE TUESDAY?
We're glad you asked. Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday—whatever you call it, it all boils down to one big, delicious feast before Lent begins.
The name Shrove Tuesday comes from the old word shriven, meaning to receive absolution. Traditionally, Christians would confess their sins and prepare for the 40-day season of Lent, a time of prayer, reflection, and often giving up indulgences (like sweets, Candy Crush, or even reality TV).
But before the self-denial kicks in, you’ve got to use up those tempting ingredients—eggs, milk, sugar—and what better way than with a giant stack of pancakes? Thus, Pancake Tuesday was born, and we’re more than happy to carry on the tradition.
So whether you’re here for the history, the community, or just the syrup, we’re flipping pancakes for a great cause. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
