About this Event
Join us for an evening with Pamela Steele, the author of In the Fields of Fatherless Children, an atmospheric historical novel that sweeps readers back to 1960's Appalachia. Following a reading and author Q&A, Pamela will be signing copies of her books.
About the Book
“Here is a novel both compelling and meditative, both tender and gritty, and wholly remarkable for the way it conjures a place and time brought to life with vivid sensory details, raw emotion, and complexity. Pamela Steele is a wonderful writer who allows us to luxuriate in precise language and gives us characters we will long cherish. I loved every page of this lovely novel.” —Silas House, author of Southernmost
In late 1960's Appalachia, against the backdrop of the Vietnam war, seventeen-year-old June Branham is pregnant and unsure whether the father is a man who assaulted her or Ellis, the man she loves, who is also the son of Soloman, a man her step-father despises. When her newborn is kidnapped, June must act in spite of a natural disaster while simultaneously running from Ellis’s father, who is hunting her.
