In All the Feels, tech and emotional design researcher Pamela Pavliscak reveals for the first time how being so plugged in shapes our emotions. Surprisingly, studies shows that digital detoxes have little effect on happiness. Instead, how we engage with the internet (rather than how much) profoundly shapes our lives. Even simple habits like sending emojis to our friends to signal nuance, or making a few positive digital connections every day, can meaningfully support emotional well-being.

Pamela Pavliscak studies the future of feelings. With a background in psychology, design, and human-computer interaction, her work combines research with creative inquiry to help people better understand their emotional lives in a digital world. Her insights have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Fast Company, NPR, and Quartz and she has spoken at SXSW, TEDx, TNW, and Web Summit. Pavliscak has collaborated with organizations including Google, IKEA, Twitch, and the New York Public Library, and is currently on faculty at Pratt Institute, where she teaches the next generation of tech designers.

is Co-Chair of the Ethical Tech Project. As retired Chief Product Officer for BBC Studios, Baird has driven growth and innovation for some of the media industry’s most successful digital brands and legacy-to-digital crossovers. She was responsible for BBC Studios’ global product strategy, ensuring the company maximizes the value of its digital portfolio—including its wide array of digital direct to consumer touchpoints as well as the digital capabilities that enable them. She also served as a key connector between BBC Studios and teams across BBC Group. Previously, Jennie served as Executive Vice President and Managing Director in BBC Studios’ Global Media and Streaming division, shepherding the Company’s vision and investment in driving audience growth across BBC’s digital news and factual products around the globe, including rebuilding and scaling BBC.com and the BBC News international mobile app, as well as managing BBC Studios’ direct-to-consumer documentary service, BBC Select, and BBC Podcasts.
