Pamamalay: Understanding the Culture of the Ayta Mag-Indi and Ayta Mag-Antsi of Pampanga. Most Kapampángans think that the Ayta are just one people with the same lifestyle and culture. Many of them do not even know that they have their own different languages. Instead of mere tribes, the Ayta people in fact belong to different indigenous nations.
In this lecture, Mariel Serrano Capuno, a postgraduate student from the University of the Philippines in Diliman and an indigenous culture-bearer and social worker from Porac, whose father is an Ayta Mag-Indi and mother an Ayta Mag-Antsi, will discuss with us the difference in languages and cultures between the Ayta Mag-Indi of Western Porac and Floridablanca and the Ayta Mag-Antsi of Eastern Porac, Angeles, Mabalacat, Bamban (Tarlac), San Marcelino (Zambales). Aside from Kapampángan, Tagalog and English, Mariel speaks both Mag-Indi and Mag-Antsi, as well as Botolan Sambal and the language of the Ayta Magbukun in Bataan.
