About this Event
Inspired by drawing and painting practices, this hands on embroidery workshop invites participants to engage with the expressive nature of intuitively embroidering by hand. Over the course of a 3 hour workshop, participants will explore embroidery as a gestural and painterly medium, treating needle and thread much like brush and paint. A floating embroidery technique is introduced to further encourage freedom and spontaneity. This approach to embroidery makes space for personal expression, encouraging participants to feel their way through the medium rather than following a fixed pattern or design. This workshop is fit for all levels. All materials are provided. You will come away from this workshop with a small hand embroidered work. The image that participants embroider will be inspired by abstract paintings from the current exhibition at Varley.
