In collaboration with Talent Maker City, Cascade Girl offers this creative workshop celebrating the beauty of pollinators of the Cascade region through art and melted beeswax magic offered on Saturday, April 11, 2026Discover encaustic painting — an ancient technique using molten beeswax, pigment, and heat to create luminous, layered artwork. You’ll learn simple techniques like fusing, layering, collage, and monoprinting while exploring texture, transparency, and playful surface design. We’ll draw inspiration from bees and other pollinators, looking closely at their shapes and details to guide your imagery.
Each participant will leave with two small encaustic paintings plus wax-printed papers for future projects. No experience is needed, all materials will be provided.
This workshop will be led by Desiree DeMars, with Sharon Schmidt. Desiree has been an artist and integrative health practitioner for over 25 years. She is a former beekeeper and former member and instructor at The Museum of Encaustic Art and The International Encaustic Artists. Sharon Schmidt is a University of Montana certified master beekeeper and also works with Pollinator Partnership’s bee friendly farming group,
