About this Event
Providence House invites you to a screening, to a screening of Paint Me a Road Out of Here, a documentary that uncovers the whitewashed history of Faith Ringgold’s mural For the Women’s House. A heartbreaking, funny, and deeply truthful, the film offers a powerful reflection on art, authorship, and a world beyond mass incarceration.
The film’s themes closely align with Providence House’s work supporting women experiencing homelessness who would otherwise be held at Rikers Island while awaiting trial.
Following the screening, a moderated discussion with director Catherine Gund and justice advocate Leah Faria, will be facilitated by Hauser & Wirth Programming Director Russell Salmon and will explore the experiences of women, girls, and gender-expansive people impacted by the carceral system, while inviting audiences to consider tangible ways to take action and support system-impacted individuals in their own communities.
