VISION QUEST has been on a forty-year journey to becoming one of the best cult sports films of the 20th century, and it’s well deserved. Though it hits many of the tropes of other sports films and doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it is still special. Like Rocky, Karate Kid, and Breaking Away before it, VISION QUEST has the luck of also having a great script, written by The Last Detail screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan. The cast is full of young, talented and familiar faces, from Forrest Whitaker to Daphne Zuniga, to name only a couple. But the main cast of Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino are endearing and thoughtful in their performances. Also, the film’s soundtrack is the height of cool, with Madonna, Journey, The Style Council, and more, with a score composed by the coolest of cool: Tangerine Dream. So come and see for yourself if Louden gets light, gets the girl, and wins the championship. See ya then!
