About this Event
This year, OxSI offers a dynamic, full-day program showcasing recent innovations in surgical practice and policy, designed to inspire and challenge surgically inclined medical students and doctors. Through keynote lectures, trainee presentations, and hands-on workshops, the conference explores how innovation translates from idea to impact across diverse surgical settings.
We are honored to feature plenary talks from leaders in the field, including Mr. Ed Sideso on Innovations in thoracic aortic disease, Dr. Harald Veen discussing Surgery in conflict zones, Ms. Sumrit Bola on Advances in tumour markers in head and neck cancer, followed by a closing address from Professor Peter Friend, who will share the journey of Taking an idea from concept to market through the OrganOx story, a striking example of successful surgical innovation in practice.
The program also features dedicated student and trainee presentations, providing a valuable platform for emerging surgeons to share their work and engage with peers and senior clinicians.
Additionally, OxSI conducts a unique interactive workshop program. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through practical sessions including Ultrasound for vascular access, Rib fixation, Laparoscopic skills, and Suturing and knot tying. Complementing these are hybrid workshops focused on professional development, such as How to pitch an idea, Getting started in academic publishing, Applying for surgical training, and Civility and teamwork in surgical practice, equipping attendees both online and in-person with skills beyond the operating theatre.
The conference is hosted at St Catherineโs College, a modern Oxford college affectionately known as St Catz. Founded in 1962 and designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, its Grade I listed buildings embody the College motto โNova et Veteraโ: the new and the old, making it a fitting venue for a conference dedicated to empowering innovation, while honoring the foundations of tradition.
Throughout the day, attendees are encouraged to engage with our poster sessions and visit the sponsorsโ fair, where leading industry partners will showcase emerging technologies and products shaping the future of surgery. We are enormously grateful to our sponsors, whose support makes OxSI possible.
Whether you are forging your surgical career or actively shaping your path through training, OxSI 2026 aims to equip, inspire, and immerse you in the evolving world of surgical innovation. We look forward to welcoming you to Oxford.
Best wishes,
The OxSI 2026 Organizing Committee
