Session 4: Hope realised: The science and stories of UK uterus transplantation

Info: In February 2025, the UK celebrated the birth of the first baby from a womb transplant, a medical first for the nation. The mother received the uterus from her sister, a procedure funded by the charity Womb Transplant UK. This historic event was the culmination of a five-operation program approved by the Human Tissue Authority and led by specialists from Imperial College Healthcare, Oxford University Hospitals, and The Lister Hospital. The team supported the mother from her transplant in Oxford to IVF treatment in London, and finally, to the birth of her baby. This ground breaking procedure provides hope for the 1 in 5,000 women in the UK born without a viable womb. // LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1.
