About this Event
"AI will not replace humans, but those who use AI will replace those who don't..." Ginni Rometty, Former IBM CEO
This event is proudly sponsored by Oxford University AI Competency Centre, in collaboration with OpenAI.
What: A 3-day Hackathon
When: April 6-8th 2026
Where: Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub, Market Street, Oxford
Who: 10 teams, 10 mentors, 5 head-to-head challenges.
Join a cohort of attendees from clinicians and data scientists to create, test and iterate a portfolio-ready clinical AI.
Challenge: Can you build an AI to perform at the level of a Foundation Year 1 Doctor?
Challenges Tracks :
- The Final Exam: Two teams test their models against a specimen final year medical examination.
- Communication, ethics and empathy: Teams are presented with a mix of urgent and non-urgent cases for summary, diagnosis and discharge. Empathic and ethical communication is rewarded.
- The Data Analytics Challenge: A specific data-focused problem , where models are challenged to predict outcomes based on clinical data provided.
- Imaging: Two teams develop fine-tuned computer vision AI apps, then test their capabilities against a set of images.
- Wearables Challenge: Teams ingest raw, body sensor data (e.g. smartwatch, fitbit), convert it to FHIR, and generate a natural language snapshot for clinician review.
Teams will have the opportunity to build with advanced models e.g. GPT-4o for complex reasoning and Whisper TTS for voice applications. This is a unique chance to work at the very forefront of AI technology, with industry-standard tools. Prizes include access to pre-seed incubation, tickets to industry events and access to a mentor network.
This event is also supported by key partners across the Oxford ecosystem, including Oxford University Hospitals, the University of Oxford and Oxford Clinical AI partners.
AI is driving transformation in healthcare. Itβs going to change the work we do, the outcomes we can deliver for patients, and the very shape of the workforce. Its greatest enabler will be an AI-proficient workforce that can direct these evolving health systems and keep patients safe. We're calling on clinicians, biomedical and data scientists. Bring your unique skills and perspectives to this co-creation event. Your collaboration is the key to innovation.
