About this Event
We're staying late at the Mills this Spring to bring you the Overtime Art Club sessions! Come along for relaxed evenings of drawing, collage, stitching and more - all facilitated by local emerging artists.
You're welcome to bring your own drinks to the session, we'll provide all the materials you'll need.
This season's sessions are a series of Ones to Watch specials, getting to know some of our exhibiting emerging artists and learning new skills in a relaxed setting! We are keen to help our Ones to Watch artists develop other areas of their careers outside of Gallery walls, and find many artists and makers diversify their practice through teaching workshops.
During this workshop, participants will learn the history behind a lost fashion trend from the Georgian era, and how this lost piece of history has informed artist Reece Kelly's practice and the eye charms that appear in their work.
In the workshop we will sew, embroider and bead these charms and use a mix of materials to embellish and create a beautiful unique charm personal to you! You can take your charm away with you or choose to leave it with Reece to add to their exhibited collection.
Artist Bio
Reece Kelly (they/he) is a Leeds-based fine artist whose practice explores the complexities of identity and human connection, particularly focused around themes of gender identity and expression. They stress the importance of community and support, especially in times such as these, where there is a rise in prejudice and oppression. With the continuation of their studies at Leeds Arts University MA in Fine Art and being recently granted the Accelerator Bursary in partnership with Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds Art Fund and Assembly House, they continue to explore and shape their identity as an artist.
You can view Reece's work within the Gallery until 29th March. Read more about Ones to Watch 2025 here.
Please note - these sessions are suitable for anyone aged 18+
