We are pleased to welcome Rabbi Michael Margaretten Cohen to Society Hill Synagogue for a Scholar-in-Residence Shabbat on February 20–21.
Rabbi Cohen is Director of Community Relations for the Friends of the Arava Institute and has been part of the Arava Institute since its founding in 1996, dividing his time between Vermont and the Institute’s campus on Kibbutz Ketura. He is also a faculty member at Bennington College, where he teaches conflict resolution, the Bible, and the environment.
Program schedule
Friday evening: During the Oneg dinner following TGIShabbat services, Rabbi Cohen will offer a teaching.
Saturday morning: Following Shabbat services, Kiddush lunch will feature a conversation between Rabbi Cohen and Rabbi Nathan Kamesar.
Rabbi Cohen’s public service includes work as a Policy Advisor to the Office of the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace at the U.S. Department of State and as a Speechwriting Advisor to the Office of the White House Speechwriters. He has also served on the advisory board of the Middle East Peace Partnership (MEPPA) of USAID.
We hope you will join us for Shabbat learning and conversation together.
