In this workshop, led by Maria, a full-time psychologist, we will discuss the common dancer experience of “stage fright” (also known as performance anxiety). We will explore some underlying factors that contribute to stage fright, and provide some tips and strategies that can help you manage when symptoms come up. The workshop will be mainly lecture, with some journaling, as well as self-reflection and experiential exercises. Important notes:
This is not a dance workshop. We recommend you bring a journal and pen. This workshop is educational and is not a replacement for mental health therapy. This workshop is offered in-person only and no recording will be available.
About Maria:
Maria has been studying belly dance at Sahara Dance since 2010, and has studied and performed multiple styles including Egyptian cabaret/Raqs Sharqi, folkloric, and Latin fusion. She also has training in salsa, bachata and tango. She has supplemented her bellydance training with workshops by numerous renowned teachers including Shahrzad, Jillina, Mohamed Shahin, Karim Nagi, and Nada El Masriya, among others. She loves to continue to learn and deepen her understanding of the dance. Maria has completed the Sahara Dance Foundations Teacher Training and has completed Sahra Saeeda’s Journey Through Egypt Levels 1 and 2. She is a member of Raqs Caravan East and performs regularly. She loves finding an emotional connection to the music and expressing her creativity through dance. She hopes to share the joy and artistry of dance with her students.
