Time: 10:30am – 4:30pm (with a lunch break)
Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.
Location: EATS Centenary Orchard
There is some shelter, but this is an outdoor workshop, so please dress for the weather and bring gloves if you can.
Throughout the day you will learn:
- The basic principles of mushroom cultivation – what fungi are and the conditions they thrive in
- Different families of fungi and their specific needs
- The benefits of growing mushrooms alongside plants
- Where and how fungi can be integrated into garden design
You will learn three core cultivation techniques that can be used to grow a wide range of fungi:
- Growing shiitake and similar fungi on hardwood logs using dowels, drills, and hammers
- Growing wine cap mushrooms in garden beds alongside plants
- Growing oyster mushrooms in containers, suitable for outdoor spaces, polytunnels, or sheds
This is a theory-focused workshop designed to give you a strong understanding of outdoor mushroom cultivation. You’ll gain practical knowledge, techniques, and confidence to try growing mushrooms at home.
