About this Event
Calling all the rebels, misfits, and trailblazers! Step into the limelight and join us for an unforgettable evening of poetic enchantment at "Outcasts on the Mic"- A spoken word night to make you feel at home away from home.
If you belong to a diaspora, this is the place to be. If you've ever felt the longing for belonging, the joy of connecting with fellow diaspora souls, and the complexities of bridging two worlds, this event is your safe haven. We stand united in our diverse backgrounds, sharing our stories, and empowering one another through the power of poetry. Our stage becomes your space for self-expression, where your stories and emotions take center stage without judgment. So bring your tales of triumph, defiance, laughter, and even heartache – we'll hold each word with utmost care and respect.
With open mic slots available and two incredible headliners, we're sure to make the night one to remember.
Some rules we live by:
🎤 We’ll bring you excellent features who deserve to be heard whether they’re currently popular or not, come and hear why they’re getting the center stage
🎤 Half of the night will be dedicated to a poetry open-mic. We don’t play with anybody’s luck- ever! So if you sign up for the event, you will get the chance to perform. We won’t be picking out names and calling them out at random. We want as many people who want to perform to be able to. PLEASE NOTE OUR OPEN-MIC IS VERY POPULAR. IF YOU WANT TO PERFORM, EMAIL US OR DM US ON INSTAGRAM TO SECURE YOUR SPOT. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT WE HAVE NO SPACE ON THE DOOR FOR PERFORMERS.
🎤 If you blow us away at the open-mic, we will come to you post the show to offer you a feature slot for our next event!
🎤 We want to always pay our feature poets so please do support our events by sharing and getting friends to come! Your ticket buys are what will fund our next events to come
🎤 If you’re entering our space, please be mature enough to know what content is offensive or sensitive. Give trigger warnings where necessary. Any kind of abuse, sexism, and racism will not be tolerated. Other than that, you’re free to perform!
Ticket purchase in advance. There may be books or merch available on site to purchase.
Doors open 7:00pm. Show begins 7:30PM sharp. Sign up early for open mic (DM on Instagram or email for spots) or on door if still available.
PLEASE BE ON TIME. DOORS CLOSE 7:30 AND LATECOMERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER.
