We're delighted to be hosting another panel in conjunction with the British Fantasy Society, this time with all Scottish authors! The panel will be titled, 'Out with Reality - Scottish science fiction, fantasy and horror' and will be a conversation about all things Scottish storytelling, mythology and folklore. We will be joined by Ian Green, Shona Kinsella, Rafael Torrubia and Lorraine Wilson. The panel will be taking place on the 26th of August and will be moderated by Katie Bruce.
Ian Green – The Deep & the Drowned
Beneath a sky ruled by gods and monsters, a drowned land spreads — thousands of scattered isles, each its own dominion, each a deadly trap for the unwary.
But for those bold enough to ply these turbulent waters, there is trade to be done and money to be made.
For a decade, Killian has sailed between the Strait Kingdoms and the Crown Isles — enough time to run up debts, break promises, and make enemies in every port. Now, foes and bad luck are quickly outnumbering his fortune and friends.
With the seas blazing with war, gods and mages clash to keep their heads above the rising tide. Killian must sail into the storm — and repay the biggest debt he owes, no matter the cost.
Shona Kinsella – Daughters of Nicnevin
Mairead and Constance, two powerful witches, meet in the early days of the 1745 Jacobite uprising. While the men of the village are away fighting, the villagers face threats from both the Black Watch and raiders, and the women are confronted with their vulnerability. They enlist the help of Nicnevin, fae queen of witches, to bring men made of earth to life to help protect their village. But just who do they need protection from? And what will happen when the village men return?
Lorraine Wilson – The Salt Oracle
Auli lives on the Bellwether, a floating college safe from the conflict of the mainland, where she studies the Oracle – an uncanny girl who channels dangerous ghosts and provides lost information about the world’s seas.
Her peaceful world is shattered when her beloved mentor, Boudain, is found dead. While most aboard believe it was due to natural causes, Auli discovers hints that suggest he was not the benign leader he seemed – and that his death might be deliberate.
Rafael Torrubia – The Shipwright and the Shroudweaver
The first book in a brand-new debut duology, The Shipwright and the Shroudweaver introduces a trail-blazing voice in Scottish fantasy, fusing the Celtic folklore of J.R.R. Tolkien with the climate geopolitics of N.K. Jemisin in an epic adventure of ancient gods, apocalyptic magic, and love that can survive the end of the world - unmissable for fans of The Will of the Many by James Islington, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.
This event will consist of 45 minutes of conversation between XXXX and a soon to be announced chairperson, followed by 15 minutes of audience questions and then a signing.
