Our Responsibilities At This Time: Insulate Britain

A talk from the new group started by Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam.
How can we create legislative change in the run up to COP 2021?
Preventing climate breakdown induced social collapse requires us to come together to engage in high level civil disobedience which will have sufficient material and reputational impact on the Johnson administration to force it to enact the most no-brainer legislation
on reducing CO2: to insulate the housing stock of the UK. It will reduce emissions, create thousands of jobs, and bring millions out of fuel poverty.
Creating “a win” will galvanise the UK and global movements providing the impetus for mass civil disobedience as Covid begins to recede. Drawing upon the dynamics which led to the era changing success of the Freedom Riders in the US civil rights movement, Roger Hallam, or an associate of his, and activists involved in Insulate Britain will run through this strategy for all parts of the climate movement to join together at this critical time.
We know 1.5C is locked in but it is still in balance whether this catastrophe will lead to functional extinction. We have a responsibility beyond words to our young people and to those on the front lines in the Global South to do whatever it nonviolently takes to stop this from happening.
We made history with the Rebellions in 2019. Let's do it again!
Roger himself may not be available to give the talk, but it's well worth a listen.
The Ryebank Fields camp in Chorlton, Manchester is best accessed via the corner of Ryebank Road and Longford Road. If driving, on street parking is available around there, or you can park at the Longford Park Car Park and walk down. On public transport, the best approach is getting off at Stretford tram station from which it is a roughly 15 minute walk. Or from Trafford Park rail station it is more like a 30-40 minute walk.
The talk will be outside but there may be room for cover. However, to preserve social distancing, it's advised to bring warm and waterproof clothes and an umbrella (it is Manchester after all!)
