In honor of Earth Day, we will be screening the documentary Our Movement Starts Here, directed by John Rash and Melanie Dang Ho. John will join us for a post-film dialogue and a community meal. The film is about a rural community in North Carolina that sparked the environmental justice movement and raised awareness of environmental racism as they fought mightily against a toxic PCB landfill in 1982. And we have a special treat in honor of National Poetry Month with our beloved author and performance poet Thandiwe who will be opening the afternoon with an excerpt from her From the Hear(th) project, an inspiring performance of jazz poems and rhythmic reflections that celebrate the natural world and community.
