Our Crooked Smile Single Release Party! Lonefeather opens the show!Our Crooked Smile, the band, is a natural progression from Phil Walsh’s solo work and his debut album ‘Down to the Wire’. Those songs get the full band treatment, letting them breathe and evolve into noisier more organic entities.
It started in mid-2025 with a serendipitous meeting that brought Aamir to Phil’s attention around their mutual appreciation and production of art. The chance discovery that Aamir was an accomplished drummer seemed like it was meant to be. A quickly arranged rehearsal proved to be decisive as the two gelled immediately.
The hunt was then on for a bass player to round out the project. With trepidation a rough live recording of one song was delivered to John Ramos, a legend in the Houston punk and indie scene. He liked what he heard, and in the first rehearsal the chemistry between the three was palpable. The first single ‘Standing in the Rain’ is out now on Bandcamp and Phil returns to Shoeshine Charley’s with Our Crooked Smile to launch a new single, title to be announced on the night. A free digital download is included in the door charge.
Our Crooked Smile are:
John Ramos: - Guitarist/bassist from Houston, Texas. Past member of several influential punk and alternative bands including, Culturcide, Bad Samaritans, Dixie Waste, Pillow, The Trolls, The New Day, Sleepyhead, Shrunken Heads/Violent Karma and Non-Dairy Creamers, Bastard Union and Punk Rock Jukebox.
Aamir Hydari: - artist, drummer, DJ, and voiceover actor. Live DJ in local band Neural Nectar in the late 90's. Drummer in Jin Pei in the early 2000's. Drummer in Olympic Motel between 2018-2019. Resident artist at Hardy Nance Studios.
Phil Walsh: Born in the industrial Northwest of England and now a full-time Houston resident. Phil is a songwriter that encapsulates an independent punk ethic instilled from an early age. Performing, writing, and recording as a drummer, singer and sometimes both with Russian For Money & NiLSTAR around the Manchester (UK) music scene, Texas Mod Crushers (Houston) and then as a solo original artist. Our Crooked Smile is a return for Phil to the core alternative/indie band ethos, and he’s loving it!

LONEFEATHER happens to be a genre-blending band hailing from Houston, Texas, carving out a unique sound that fuses rock, punk, and acid-laced psychedelia. Rooted in raw energy and lyrical depth, Lonefeather delivers a sonic punch that feels both nostalgic and fiercely original. Featuring Gerry Diaz Guitar and vocal, Mike McManus on bass and Justus Swantner on drums.
Mike McManus Bass: A decades long veteran of Houston's home grown original music scene including Wizard,Eclipse, The Broadcasters, Oui B Cranes, The Drive, Chaz and the Rythm Lads and more..prog, classic,and hard rock,reggae blues and jazz.
Justus Swantner drums: Corpus Christi Tx native last 20 years popular drummer in Beaumont Tx area while playing in bands Book of Days and Stone Cold...blues, rock, Motown country and Jazz.
Gerry Diaz guitar vocals: Longtime Houston Musician, songwriter, artist and audio engineer Detroit native rock influence with Texas psychedelic rock overtones. Nicknamed Lonefeather while working audio at H Town Fitzgearalds. Have performed solo under Joseph Lonefeather,From Prog, Americana and alternative acid rock bands include Spiny Normen, Airbath. Mr. Greengenes, The Basics, The Trolls, Ripp Tacket, Psylobison.
