About this Event

Composed of Nathan Bredeson, Alex Bougie and François Lacelle, The Ottawa Guitar Trio has made it their mission to highlight the accessibility and relatability of instrumental music to modern audiences. Each of them prolific arrangers, the trio thrives in challenging themselves to authentically adapt a wide array of repertoire spanning from movie soundtracks, video game compilations as well as the classical music canon. They also pride themselves in showcasing pieces by local as well as up-and-coming composers who are furthering the guitar ensemble medium. Making their debut in the summer of 2018, the trio has taken part in concert series for the Ottawa Chamberfest's Chamber Pints series, the Ottawa Guitar Society, the Guitar Alla Grande festival, as well as the Federal Government of Canada and have performed in venues such as Rideau Hall, the Ontario Art Gallery, and Dominion Chalmers United, among others. They have also been featured on CBC's "In Town and Out" as well as Radio Canada's "Les malins".

Simon Farintosh is an award-winning guitarist, composer, and educator from Victoria, BC. Named one of CBC’s ‘30 Under 30 Classical Musicians’ in 2023, he is known for his unconventional programming choices, connecting with audiences by integrating the classical guitar with more contemporary musical forms such as electronica and jazz. His debut album Noctuary (2023) features an extended original composition for solo eight-string guitar. Amassing over 2 million streams on Spotify, his EP Aphex Twin for Guitar (2021) comprises of his own transcriptions of pieces by British electronic music icon Richard D. James, fusing two seemingly disparate types of music.

Adam Batstone is a Canadian guitarist from St. John’s, Newfoundland. He obtained his Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 2019. He has won numerous prestigious awards at both national and international guitar competitions, and has impressed audiences across North America with his virtuosic performances, both as a soloist and as a member of the 'Altius Guitar Duo’. In 2015, Batstone was selected as a 'CBC Young Artist' in Canada and recorded a duo recital that was broadcast nationally. He is dedicated to expanding the repertoire for guitar duo and has created numerous original arrangements that showcase the ensemble's unique potential, while bringing fresh perspective to music not originally written for the guitar.
