Actor, writer, and producer David Koechner is well known for his roles as Todd Packer on The Office and Champ Kind from Anchorman and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
He currently co-hosts A&E’s America’s Top Dog, plays Bill Lewis on ABC’s The Goldbergs, and recently appeared on ABC’s Bless This Mess, CBS’s Superior Donuts, Showtime’s Twin Peaks, Comedy Central’s Another Period, and IFC’s Stan Against Evil. Koechner also voices recurring characters on FOX’s American Dad and Netflix’s F Is for Family and The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.
In film, his recent projects include Then Came You, Braking for Whales, A Week Away, Vicious Fun, and National Champions. An alumnus of Chicago’s legendary Second City Theater, Koechner got his first major break as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and has since become an instantly recognizable face, appearing in more than 200 films and television shows.
Additional notable film credits include Waiting, Out Cold, Talladega Nights, Get Smart, Extract, Thank You for Smoking, A Haunted House, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Priceless, Legendary’s Krampus, and the dark, twisted, award-winning thriller Cheap Thrills.
When not filming, Koechner tours nationally performing live comedy and creates original video content for his YouTube channel, Full On Koechner. He also co-hosts Big Slick Celebrity Weekend — an annual charity event benefiting Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City — alongside fellow Kansas City natives Rob Riggle, Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, and Eric Stonestreet. Koechner currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

David Koechner grew up in Tipton, Missouri, working for his father in the family’s turkey-coop manufacturing business. He studied political science at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, before transferring to the University of Missouri. After college, he moved to Chicago, where he trained in improvisation at the iO (formerly ImprovOlympic) under Del Close and Charna Halpern, later becoming an ensemble member of Second City Theater Northwest.
From there, Koechner spent one season on Saturday Night Live before moving to Los Angeles, where he landed guest appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Reno 911! and a recurring role on Still Standing. He co-starred in indie films such as Dill Scallion, Wakin’ Up in Reno, Dropping Out, and Run Ronnie Run while delivering standout performances in studio comedies including Out Cold, My Boss’s Daughter, and A Guy Thing.
Koechner, along with Dave “Gruber” Allen, created The Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show, which began as a live act at Club Largo in Los Angeles and was later developed into a Comedy Central television series.
His breakout film role came as Champ Kind in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy — a character he reprised in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Koechner has since appeared in dozens of studio and independent films, including Daltry Calhoun, The Dukes of Hazzard, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Snakes on a Plane, Let’s Go to Prison, Semi-Pro, Get Smart, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, Extract, A Haunted House, Paul, Priceless, Krampus, and Thank You for Smoking. He also starred in The Comebacks and the acclaimed thriller Cheap Thrills.
In addition to his extensive film and television work, Koechner remains a fixture on the comedy circuit, performing stand-up across the country and engaging fans online through his Full On Koechner channel. He continues to support charitable causes through Big Slick Celebrity Weekend alongside his Kansas City comedy contemporaries.
Koechner currently lives in Los Angeles, California, where he continues to act, write, produce, and make audiences laugh around the world.
