Welcome to OtherWorlds Fair!
Come join us on Saturday, August 16th on Governors Island 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM for a day filled with creativity and free, hands-on workshops designed, led, and run by New York City's young people ages 16-22 presented by Beam Center.
Join us as we examine this year’s theme: ‘What’s Under the Surface’ through showcase exhibitions, performances, and of course workshops! Dive into other worlds as you explore woodworking, music production, textile arts, filmmaking, animation and much more all led by our youth!

- Mind Theater Animation Studio Workshop
Build your own story with this fun, hands-on animation workshop! Choose changeable backdrops and make custom characters with clay and other materials, as you explore storytelling and stop-motion animation led by our youth.
- Marbling on the Surface Workshop
Dive into colorful swirls in this two part workshop to create your very own 3D marbled frame with a monotype insert. Inspired by nature, anime and our Youth Leaders’ imagination. This one may get a little messy! **Aprons provided**
- Brain Box Workshop
Build your own pulley activated jack-in-the box with just enough twist! Learn basic woodworking, create a little character out of fabric, and record your own special message for it. Take home a toy that will surprise you every time!
- UV Camera Workshop
Peek into your very own world in this workshop...take home a miniature UV light box with a secret message full of vibrant color, designed and imagined by YOU! Our skilled youth will teach you the basics of electronics and fabrication as you create a hidden drawing or personal message in UV ink.
PERFORMANCES (all day)
- Live DJ Sets
- Getting moving with a Line Dance Lesson choreographed and led by teens
- Watch a fashion presented by the Fashion & Textile cohort as they walk the runway showing off their handmade garments and learned fabrication skills
- Welcome our partner guests, Building Beats, as they introduce their young people who've been learning music production, DJ'ing and much more!
FILM SCREENINGS (all day)
- 2 films created by our youth (horror & documentary) that bring the island and the people that work on it to life. Talk to the youth that made it during the Q&A after!
EXHIBTIONS & SCULPTURES (all day)
- Check out Intercube Studios & SPARK's larger than life architectural marvels from castles, to arenas to dream luxury pads.
- Explore the hand made nautical themed tree displaying hand crafted creatures of the sea
- And a Table Setting with handmade pottery that will make you spiral

- If you're ARE interested in visiting the fair and participating in a workshop, choose a time slotted ticket
- A General Admission ticket DOES NOT secure a spot in any of our workshops. Please let us know how many people will be joining us by selecting individual tickets for as many of the scheduled workshops as you'd like.
- If you ARE NOT interested in a workshop choose a GA ticket (there's still so much to explore!)
- If you've signed up for a workshop, please be on time as space is limited
