Other Half:
For the uninitiated, Other Half are a 3-piece punk band from Norwich, UK. Marrying
twitching Dischord-style post-hardcore and sneering indie rock with narrative-driven lyricism, band members Cal, Alfie and Soapy have been in love with each other for well over 10 years now. The band released their second album, Soft Action, via Big Scary Monsters (American Football, Cursive, Lambrini Girls) in December 2022.
Soft Action saw the band distilling the caustic punk and sardonic storytelling that characterised their debut, whilst amplifying the most melodic and dissonant parts of their sound in equal measure. Utilising the discordant squall of Sonic Youth, the ragged hooks of Pixies, and the searing intensity of bands like The Jesus Lizard and Fugazi, the record is a love-letter to a time in music where the
underground and DIY ethics became a mainstream concern.
Problem Patterns:
Problem Patterns are four shouty queers who write songs for right now, swapping roles and instruments to get their point across about whatever angers them this week.
After many lonely nights screaming alone in their bedrooms over the state of the world, Alanah, Bethany, Bev and Ciara (aka ABBA) came together in Belfast in 2018 to invent a new genre they called PUNK. It's shouty, it's heavy, it's tongue in cheek, it's inclusive, it's hopeful and it's fun.
The four DIY punk dads are all about creating havoc in celebratory and cathartic spaces. Bigger than the Beatles, but not yet quite as big as Slipknot, the band have played notable support slots with Le Tigre, Bob Vylan, Dream Wife, Ash and Fight Like Apes.
Their debut single, "Allegedly", was recorded and released within their first month together. They released their debut EP, "Good For You, Aren't You Great?" in July 2019. Their debut album 'Blouse Club' was released in October 2023, with a music video accompanying all 12 tracks, including the singles 'Who Do We Not Save?'—an acerbic and biting critique of Tory funding policy and their systematic attempts to privatise the NHS, and 'Letter of Resignation'—their party banger celebrating queer joy in the face of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.
