About this Event
Please join Innovate Carolina’s Office of Technology Commercialization for the 2026 Celebration of Inventorship, an evening honoring UNC’s inventors and their contributions to research, innovation, and societal impact.
The evening will begin with dinner, providing an opportunity to engage with fellow innovators, campus colleagues, and members of the broader innovation community.
Opening remarks will be provided by Tommy Sowers, PhD, Vice Chancellor for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development and Chief Innovation Officer.
This year’s celebration will mark the return of UNC’s Inventor of the Year Award, presented for the first time since 2020. Awarded to an individual whose significant contributions to invention and entrepreneurship have advanced discovery and strengthened the culture of innovation at UNC, the 2026 Inventor of the Year will serve as the evening’s featured speaker, sharing reflections on their distinguished career and their journey of innovation and entrepreneurship.
The program will also include the formal recognition of UNC inventors who were issued U.S. patents in 2025, celebrating the creativity and impact that drive discovery and commercialization at Carolina.
We look forward to honoring the individuals whose work exemplifies excellence in inventorship and advances the university’s mission of innovation.
Program will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.
