About this Event
OWGRA is organising a hustings event on Friday evening 17 April 2026 at West Thames College (Endeavour Theatre), London Road, Isleworth, TW7 4HS, ahead of the local elections on 7 May 2026. We have invited all candidates from all parties standing for Ward Councillor in Osterley & Spring Grove ward to attend. We are expecting between 9 and 12 candidates from the following six parties: Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Green Party, Reform, Your Party.
The quality of local representation remains a concern for many residents across the borough, with many expressing frustration that they rarely hear from some of their Ward Councillors outside of election campaigns. Hustings provide a valuable opportunity to hear candidates’ commitments against which they can later be held accountable. They also help residents make informed choices at the ballot box.
With the changing political landscape, the May 2026 local elections will be an important test of local democracy. Our objective is to provide voters with an opportunity to learn who the candidates are and what they stand for, and to help voters understand each candidate’s priorities, experience, and approach to local issues.
Objectives of the hustings
- Inform voters of the role and responsibility of a Ward Councillor.
- Provide voters with an opportunity to learn who the candidates are and what they stand for.
- Help voters understand each candidate’s priorities, experience, and approach to local issues.
- Create a record of commitments that residents can refer to after the election.
- Ensure the meeting reflects the real concerns of residents, by focussing on ward-specific matters such as housing, planning, local services, roads, transport, crime & ASB, safety, community development and environment.
- Bring residents together to discuss shared challenges and aspirations and motivate them to engage with local democracy and increase voter turnout.
