MedEd presents the ONC© Exam review focusing on orthopedic patient-centered care nursing standards.
About this Event

The ONC® Exam contains questions related to orthopedic patient-centered care nursing standards. By a comprehensive review of these standards, the participant will have the tools and knowledge necessary for successful preparation for orthopedic nursing certification. Content will include assessment and care for orthopedic patients experiencing pediatric/congenital/neuromuscular disorders, metabolic conditions, degenerative/inflammatory disorders, total joint arthroplasty, orthopedic trauma/conditions and sports injuries, fractures, musculoskeletal tumors, amputation, spinal surgery or ortho-pedic complications with appropriate prevention strategies and priority interventions.ONC® is a registered trademark of the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board, which neither sponsors nor endorses this product.


Key Learning Outcome
  • After completing the program, 80% of participants will report an increase in knowledge and confidence necessary to pass the certification exam.


Exam Eligibility RequirementsCandidates for the ONC examination are not required to have a BSN but must meet the following eligibility criteria at the time of application:

Have two full years of experience practicing as an RN.

Have a minimum of 1,000 hours of work experience as an RN in orthopaedic nursing practice within the past three years. The ONCB® accepts, but does not limit the practitioner to orthopaedic experience in the areas of administration, adult care, clinic, critical care, education, emergency room, home health care, long-term care, medical-surgical nursing, office practice, oncology, operating room, community nursing, and pediatrics.

Hold a current, full and unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) in the United States, or its possessions, OR hold a current, full and unrestricted license to practice as a first-level, general nurse in the country in which the candidate’s general nursing education was completed, and have educational equivalency established by one of the following approved agencies:

Foundation for International Services, Inc.

International Consultants of Delaware, Inc.

International Education Research Foundation Credentials Evaluation Service

Josef Silny and Associates

World Education Services, Inc.

The foreign-educated nurse who holds active certification from the following may submit a copy of his or her certificate in lieu of additional education verification:

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Board (MSNCB)

Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI)

Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC)

American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN Certification Corporation)

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. Each day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.
