Tonight, indoors in the Albuquerque Museum’s intimate Ventana Room we feature the New York based, Grammy nominated pianist Orrin Evans who was last heard at the 2024 New Mexico Jazz Festival with his trio Tarbaby. Evans has become the model of a fiercely independent artist who pushes the envelope in all directions. He has led and collaborated on projects including the Eubanks Evans Experience, a duo with Kevin Eubanks; Lisa Fischer featuring the Orrin Evans Trio, a collaboration between the Grammy-winning vocalist and Evans’ trio with bassist Luques Curtis and drummer Mark Whitfield Jr.; and more, and he recently released his fifth album with his Captain Black Big Band, Walk a Mile in My Shoe, which earned the ensemble its third Grammy nomination. Evans also earned the #1 ranking as “Rising Star Pianist” in the 2018 DownBeat Critics Poll, and is an influential educator whose students include alto saxophonist and Blue Note artist Immanuel Wilkins as well as Grammy-nominated pianist Brandon Goldberg. He also lends his experience and expertise as Board President of the Cape May Jazz Festival Foundation and as a board member for educational non-profit The Heart of Jazz and for the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. $35/$25 Outpost/NMJW Members. $15 students (Space in the Ventana Room is limited so get your tickets early!)
