Join us on this field trip to Orokonui Ecosanctuary and enjoy a bird-spotting adventure with expert tour guides!Your Orokonui guides will lead loop walks through native grassland, regenerating bush, and ancient cloud forest habitat, looking out for and sharing kōrero about our precious birds, plants, and reptiles along the way. Learn about our shared histories with the valley, the sanctuary's vital conservation work, and the future of taoka species thriving under its care.
Your trip includes a return bus journey to Orokonui Ecosanctuary, a guided tour, and time to explore on your own or enjoy lunch in Orokonui’s stunning natural surrounds. You’ll need to provide your own lunch, or you can choose from a delicious selection of food at Horopito Café.
All under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear weather-appropriate attire and your walking shoes!
Schedule:
9.40am – Meet at Albany Street Bus Stop (across Museum Reserve)
10am – Bus Departs
10.20am – Arrival at Orokonui
10.30am – Guided Tour
12pm – Self-guided Exploration
12.45pm – Return to Bus
1pm – Bus departs for Tūhura Otago Museum
1.30pm – Arrive at Tūhura Otago Museum
