About this Event
Join us for an interactive class where you’ll learn songs in Yorùbá and be introduced to the shekere—a traditional West African percussion instrument made from a dried gourd wrapped in beads. Together, we’ll explore how voice and rhythm work hand in hand through call-and-response singing, movement, and hands-on shekere practice.
This beginner-friendly class centers participation, listening, and collective rhythm. No prior musical experience is needed. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to play. You’ll leave with songs, rhythms, and a deeper understanding of how music carries culture, memory, and joy.
