Rachmaninoff’s ‘All Night Vigil’ has undoubtedly become one of the most popular and endearing choral works: its rich harmonic language, luscious textures and timeless beauty have made it as much of a delight to sing as it is to listen to. Composed in 1915, only two years before the Russian Revolution and the subsequent condemnation of religious music, this set of works draws on Greek, and Kiev-style chant, as well as original melodies written by the composer himself. The Oriana Chorale is thrilled to be able to present this ambitious work, performed in the gorgeous acoustic of the ANZAC memorial chapel of St Paul, Duntroon, with guest soloists Andrei Laptev, Andrew Fysh and Maartje Sevenster.
