At 6:30, hear from a longtime resident and expert on educational policy in the Elk Grove and Sacramento areas about the current threats to K-12 education under the Trump administration and how the Sacramento County Office of Education is responding to policy changes.
Xanthi Soriano is the Executive Director for Communications at the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), bringing 15 years of experience in public education. She previously served as the Director of Communications and Public Information Officer at the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) since 2015 and taught English and world languages at Valley High School (EGUSD) from 2010–2014, where she was also the dance director for the school’s Footwork’s Dance Company. She continues to teach civics and English as a Second Language to adult English learners in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.
With a background in communications and marketing, Xanthi has led curriculum development, crisis communications, and public information efforts and has spearheaded awareness campaigns to successfully recruit educators, grow student enrollment, and promote literacy. She has served on the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Board and the Sacramento Metro Chamber’s Workforce and Education Committee, advocating for academic achievement and college and career readiness. Fluent in English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian, she was selected as a U.S. Department of State Fulbright Specialist in communications and education for 2021–2024. Her private sector experience includes roles as a corporate communications manager for Siemens Mobility, a business research analyst and marketing supervisor at McDonald’s Corporation, and as an advertising agency media buyer for both the general and Hispanic markets.
Xanthi holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Drama and History from UC Irvine, a teaching credential from San Francisco State University, a Master’s in Public Administration from the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, and an administrative services credential from Sacramento State University. As an educator, she possesses multiple subject, single subject, and administrative clear credentials. Her favored subjects are world languages, ESL instruction, and visual and performing arts programs that help develop student leadership in underserved communities.
