In observance of National Mental Health Awareness Month, NMTS is proud to present two FREE screenings of the documentary "Orchestrating Change" on May 18th and 19th, 2024. This documentary (orchestratingchangethefilm.com) showcases the remarkable journey of the Me2/Orchestra, the world's only orchestra established by and for individuals living with mental illness and their allies. The Me2/Orchestra's mission is to combat mental health stigma through the power of music, one concert at a time. These screenings aim to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues. Along with the film screenings, NMTS will be bringing conductor Ronald Braunstein, Executive Director of Me2/Orchestra Caroline Whidden, and the filmmakers to Reno. Each of these individuals will contribute uniquely to the events on both days!
Saturday, May 18th: NMTS will collaborate with the Reno Chamber Orchestra for the first screening. Following the documentary viewing, Maestro Braunstein will conduct a masterclass on conducting for students, educators, and the general public. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive guidance and coaching while conducting members of the RCO string quartet accompanied by RCO conductor Maestro Kelly Kuo on piano.
Sunday, May 19th: For the second screening, NMTS will partner with NAMI Northern Nevada. The screening will be followed by a meet-and-greet, panel discussion, and interactive Q&A session featuring the conductor, executive director, and filmmakers.
