We are excited to announce the full details of the first event in the 2025 OQL LIVE VIII calendar.
You can register at https://quizcentral.net/oqllive/
The event will take place at venues around the UK on the 25th January 2024. We will aim for each venue to start around 11:30am. The cost will be an absolute bargain rate of just £1 per person for this first event of 2025.
Players will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to answer 240 questions and at the end of the day we will crown an overall champion as well as our 8 category champions. Players will also earn ranking points based on their performance in each category and overall so you'll be able to track your performance and improvement. Each venue will be provided with a fun team quiz for the afternoon but they are all welcome to provide whatever afternoon entertainment they wish.
The competition will consist of 30 questions in each of the standard 8 OQL categories. All questions are being written by Ronny Jackson and edited by Rob Hannah.
Art and Literature – this will include all culture and classical music/ballet will be moved here.
Television and Film – This category will include TV and Film from all genres and eras.
Geography – Much like OQL geography this round will include many social sciences as well as human and physical geography.
History – Again, much like the OQL history category, this round will cover all history, current events, politics and a few other areas such as law.
Lifestyle – This is the general lifestyle category which covers things such as fashion, celebs, food and drink, fitness, alternative medicines and more.
Other pop culture – This is where you'll find pop music questions which will make up about 50% of this round, the rest will be other forms of popular entertainment such as computer games, board games, podcasts, radio, anime, comics and the like.
Science – This will be a pure science round covering all areas of science, nature and the universe.
Sport – This will just be pure sport, all other aspects of the normal OQL sport round have been moved to other pop culture so it will just be sport sport sport.
Each category will have a nearest the bull tie-breaker and there will be an overall tie-breaker as well.
There are 16 confirmed venues around the UK and Ireland. Registration is via our website. Players will select their venue, book themselves on and then transfer the entry fee over to us. You can make payment by bank transfer prior to the event or just bring a £1 coin with you on the day to give to your hosts.
We allow our proctors to play as there will be rigorous security measures in place to ensure that no one accesses the quiz prior to the event starting. OQL will cover all venue costs so no venue will be more expensive than any other. Here are the 16 venues and the host in charge of each whom you can contact for any venue specific questions
