Operation Lifesaver: Rail Safety Awareness Presentation
The New Lenox Safe Community Coalition, in partnership with METRA and the State of Illinois Operation Lifesaver Program, is offering a FREE rail safety presentation designed to help community members better understand train operations and stay safe around railroad tracks and crossings.
Presented by Carl Cicero, Inspector Training Coordinator for the METRA Police Department, this informative program will explore the realities of railroad safety, common misconceptions about trains, and the important precautions everyone should take when near tracks, crossings, and rail property.
With both the Rock Island District and Southwest Service METRA lines running through New Lenox, rail safety is an important topic for residents of all ages. Whether you are a driver, pedestrian, cyclist, parent, or student, this presentation will provide valuable information that can help prevent injuries and save lives.
Participants will learn:
• How trains operate and why they cannot stop quickly
• The dangers associated with railroad crossings and trespassing on tracks
• Important rail safety laws and regulations
• Common causes of train-related incidents and how they can be prevented
• Practical safety tips for drivers, pedestrians, and families
Operation Lifesaver is a nationwide public safety education program dedicated to reducing collisions, injuries, and fatalities at railroad crossings and on railroad property through education, awareness, and community outreach.
