Step into an enchanted evening of music and elegant indulgence as Columbia Chorale presents a celebration of operatic favorites. The evening begins with exquisite wine service starting at 6:30 p.m. outside in the "Journey Courtyard," accompanied by our professional string ensemble performing light classical selections as they stroll through the peaceful grounds in front of the historic Stephens Chapel.
Following this sophisticated pre-concert reception, enter the elegant Grand Kimball Ballroom at 7:00 p.m. for artisanal desserts and champagne as Columbia Chorale takes the stage to present beloved choruses from the greatest works in the operatic repertoire. From the spirited "Brindisi" from Verdi's La Traviata to the haunting "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" from Nabucco, from Bizet's passionate French masterwork Carmen to the ethereal "Humming Chorus" from Puccini's Madama Butterfly, this program showcases the power, passion, and diversity of the operatic tradition across Italian, French, Latin, and English texts. The evening also features dramatic moments from Beethoven's Fidelio and Verdi's Macbeth, alongside the soaring "Te Deum" from Puccini's Tosca.
The concert features the winners of the revived CAAM Opera Aria Competition, returning after a decade-long hiatus to showcase the finest vocal talent in our region as they perform famous arias between choral selections. Our professional string quartet and pianist bring these masterworks to life through intimate chamber arrangements that highlight the beauty and intricacy of these beloved scores.
Join us for this sophisticated celebration of opera's choral treasures in one of Columbia's most beautiful venues, featuring both magnificent choral works and exceptional solo performances by our region's finest vocalists. Enhanced by artisanal desserts and carefully selected wines and champagne. Black tie optional.
