The Opera Australia Children’s Chorus offers 15 talented young, local performers (aged 9–14) a once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform alongside Opera Australia’s world-class artists and musicians.
Auditions will be held on Thursday 23 April from 4.30pm to 6pm, with rehearsals from May to August, ahead of the main performance on Saturday 8 August at 7.30pm. Auditions are being held in the ROSS FAMILY STUDIO and children will need to come with a prepared vocal piece to audition with and it does not have to be opera. It can be any music genre of their choice that they feel showcases their vocal range.
Following the selection of the Chorus, children will attend 1-hour rehearsals in the Studio across May- August 2026, led by Chorus Master Annalie McRae. There will be approximately 8 -10 rehearsals.
On performance day (Saturday 8 August), children will be suitably chaperoned, provided costumes and have a chance to rehearse on stage with the cast and orchestra. Side by side with some of Opera Australia's finest singers, the Children's Chorus will feel the magic of live theatre performance at the 7.30pm performance.
Through the rehearsal and performance process, children also gain a wider understanding of opera, which we hope sparks interest in future artistic pursuits.
Like all Opera Australia productions we have presented in the past, it will be of high calibre, featuring the best Opera singers Australia has to offer. This is a wonderful opportunity for our local children to perform in a professional production and develop their vocal skills.
To participate, Parents/Guardians will need to register their child’s interest to audition for the Chorus.
Following receipt of the registration, Parents/Guardians receive a confirmation email from the Box Office.
Successful Children’s Chorus members will be required to pay a $30 registration fee.
